Kuda Bux, the fakir who could see without eyes

Kuda Bux and extraocular vision: the story of the fakir who defied the impossible

The story of Kuda Bux is an astonishing example of human abilities that go beyond the ordinary. This mystic and fakir, born in Pakistan, captivated the world with his ability to see without his eyes, linked to Intuitive Vision and extraocular vision. Through his demonstrations and his method, he left a legacy that still inspires students and practitioners of Intuitive Vision courses today.

Who was Kuda Bux? The origins of a master of Intuitive Vision

Born in Pakistan, he became famous in the 1950s thanks to a British television program called “Kuda Bux, Hindu Mystic”. In his demonstrations, he amazed audiences by performing seemingly impossible feats with his eyes completely blindfolded:

  • Reading the small print in a magazine.
  • Threading needles with precision.
  • Making out tiny details on coins held by members of the audience.
  • Shooting an air pistol with perfect accuracy, his head fully bandaged.

These demonstrations made him an icon of extraocular vision, but they also drew the attention of skeptics who tried to uncover his method.

How did Kuda Bux’s extraocular vision work?

To prove his ability, he did not just blindfold himself: he packed cotton to fill any gap between his eyes and his nose, and then wrapped his head in several layers of bandages.
This technique was filmed on many television programs, leaving behind audiovisual records that are still striking today for their authenticity.

The most intriguing thing about Kuda Bux was his claim that he had learned Intuitive Vision and extraocular vision from a yogi in Haridwar, India.
According to him, this ability was not sleight of hand, but a skill developed through practice and a deep connection between mind and body.

Kuda Bux’s influence on culture and science

In 1952, he was interviewed by the famous writer Roald Dahl, who told his story in an essay entitled “The Amazing Eyes of Kuda Bux”.
The essay was published in Argosy magazine and shed light on the mystic’s incredible abilities.

Later, Dahl drew on him to write the short story “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar”, in which a character develops clairvoyant powers to win at the casino.

His story not only left its mark on literature: it also inspires today’s researchers of Intuitive Vision to explore these abilities.

An excerpt from our book Seeing Without Eyes Is Possible

Cases like that of Kuda Bux are surprising because of the amount of audiovisual material it left behind, especially in the United Kingdom. Evident proof that eyeless vision is possible, but even so they fell into oblivion and did not transcend national borders or the passage of time.

Observers noted that without a blindfold, Bux required glasses to read small print. While blindfolded, he was able to read the dates on a coin in a spectator’s hand, read fine print in a magazine, thread a needle, duplicate words he had never seen written before, or shoot a can over children’s heads with a toy gun, among many other “tricks.”

In the interview, Kuda explains how he learned the ability to see without eyes, as well as to walk on coals, from a yogi in Haridwar, India. Over the years, the world famous short story writer added some fantasy to the first essay and changed the figure of Kuda Bux to Imhrat Khan and wrote a beautiful tale in which an English gentleman eventually masters this type of clairvoyance to play poker and succeed in the casinos: “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.”
In this work the nature of this capacity is described very clearly and as researchers of the phenomenon we have been able to verify that the way of explaining it is very similar to how we have experienced it ourselves with some of our participants.

What can we learn from it?

The story of Kuda Bux leaves us with several important lessons:

  • Human potential is immense: with practice and perseverance, we can develop abilities that seem impossible.
  • Intuitive Vision exists: cases like this show that extraocular vision is more than a myth; it is an ability we can explore and develop.
  • The importance of research: thanks to the audiovisual records he left us, his legacy lives on and inspires new generations to study these abilities.
