Getaran, extraocular vision through vibration

Getaran: a method for developing extraocular vision and Intuitive Vision

One of the most fascinating methods for developing Intuitive Vision is Getaran, or Merpati Putih, a martial art from Indonesia that focuses on developing extrasensory perception. In this article we look at how this ancient martial art from Central Java can become a powerful tool for developing extraocular and Intuitive Vision, and how it relates to vibration and subtle energy.

What is Getaran? A branch of the Merpati Putih tradition

Getaran, which means “vibrations” in Indonesian, is a branch of the Merpati Putih martial tradition. This martial art has been preserved as a royal heritage in the kingdom of Mataram, in Central Java, since the 8th century. For centuries the Indonesian royal army practiced it in secret. Even today the Indonesian military masters these techniques, and videos of their blindfolded demonstrations are widely shared online.

Merpati Putih: a complete system of physical and mental development

Merpati Putih is much more than a self-defense technique: it is a complete system that includes exercises for physical fitness, breathing, meditation, energy development, self-assertion and combat. The discipline was opened to the public in 1963 and has since spread to other countries, sometimes under other names. Its essence, however, remains the same: seeking balanced energy and growing stronger in both body and mind.

Seeing through vibration: developing extraocular vision with Getaran

Getaran is a branch of this martial art which holds that matter vibrates, and that seeing without eyes is nothing more than re-educating the brain and consciousness to pick up these vibrations. Thanks to them, we can perceive the color, shape and location of different objects without using our eyes.

The science behind Getaran: becoming sensitive to vibrational frequencies

According to D. S. Farrer and John Whalen-Bridge, in Martial Arts as Embodied Knowledge: Asian Traditions in a Transnational World (2011), Getaran seeks to make the body sensitive to the subtle vibrational frequencies that surround us. To develop it, practitioners begin with long breathing and meditation exercises while blindfolded, during which the student is invited to stay as receptive as possible: they must close off their “external senses” (smell, hearing, sight, taste), calm their emotions and thoughts, and focus their attention on their inner feelings and sensations.

Getaran and re-educating the body: a path toward intuitive perception

Getaran is not just a physical technique; it is a deep process of re-educating the body and consciousness. Through regular practice, we learn to perceive the world through vibration and energy, and to develop abilities that go beyond the usual five senses.

Do you feel this is going to become part of your life?

Not as something to achieve or to teach, but as a way of living.
